To My Dearest James,
I want you to know that I have loved you with every ounce of my being since the day you were born.

I want you to know that my heart has been broken ever since your diagnosis, since you first stopped talking and looking at me. How I miss your sweet voice and the way we used to play and dance together.

I want you to know that you have been my greatest teacher. The lessons I have learned from you, I could never have learned from anyone else – you are my hero!

I want you to know that I am so sorry for the struggles you face daily. This life has been anything but easy for you.

I want you to know that I am so proud of all of your hard work and accomplishments. The progress that you are making now is incredible and I am so happy for you.

I want you to know that I am trying my absolute best to understand you, and I’m so sorry that I have fallen short so many times. Please continue to be patient with me.

I want you to know that I feel terrible that you are going to be in the hospital for such a long time, but James, I am certain that the staff at Kennedy Krieger Institute are the only people that can free you from this life of self-injury and pull you out of this wreckage.

I want you to know that I will miss you every day and think about you every minute. I will miss your beautiful smile, our walks together, watching you swim every day, and tucking you in every night. I will miss hearing your favorite songs all day long.

I want you to know that even though we will be apart for a long time, I will be there to visit as much as I can.

I want you to know this is your miracle! Please try not to be afraid, easier said than done – I’m scared too! But we will get through this! We are a great team!

I want you to know that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves, and I am hoping that this incredible opportunity will finally give you some peace.

I want you to know that I have never given up and I promise you I never will. I will always fight for you!

I want you to know that this is not goodbye! It is your new beginning and time for you to heal.

I want you to know that when you come home a new life with your family awaits. We all love you more than anything!

All my love,

Mommy
